This month, Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills celebrates its 30th anniversary, but the iconic luxury L.A. hotel began its festivities early with a modern room refresh.
“It was extremely important in developing the design concept that we embraced the unique story and history of the hotel and that we bring it out in the renovation,” said Jessica Houlemard, senior designer for Wimberly Interiors, the firm responsible for the property’s enhancements.
Standard King and Deluxe King guestrooms will feature a monochromatic color scheme, with beige and gray tones, neutral carpeting and bright white bedding. Oversize headboards with a subtle, elegant floral pattern will offer integrated power/USB outlets and built-in reading lights. The floral theme will extend to the rooms’ decor, which will incorporate the hotel owners’ passion for flowers.
“Before it was the Four Seasons, the owners had a flower shop on this block, and from the moment the hotel opened its doors, it has had a long-standing relationship with the entertainment industry,” Houlemard said. “To capture the owners’ love of flowers, we brought in a unique collection of neutral palettes, subtle textures and colors, creating a visual balance like that of a flower. It was an exciting challenge to use this inspiration to recreate the essence of the old Hollywood glamor into a fresh and timeless design.”
Floor-to-ceiling drapes; renovated television consoles and nightstands; improved and additional lighting; and an activity area for dining and working will round out updates in these room categories. Executive Suites will see many of the same updates, with dark bedding instead of white, in addition to a lounge area that features graphic fabric patterns and an avant-garde accent mirror. All renovations are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The guest corridor and lift lobby will also see a refresh: Guests can expect a new color palette, with cream walls and black guestroom doors; crystal chandeliers; and new decor.
Expect even more flower power by way of floral installations from renowned florist Jeff Leatham, who returned to the property last year as the floral artistic director. His creations are currently exhibited in the hotel lobby, and Leatham also operates an on-site floral boutique, where he can produce customized displays for clients.
Leathem most recently served as artistic director of Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris, where he will split his time.
Enhancing the Legacy
In 2016, Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles made upgrades to the property that include a new screening room and Vinoteca, a new Italian wine bar and espresso cafe.
Vinoteca, located adjacent to Culina restaurant, premiered last October. The sophisticated bar and cafe is meant to help power Angelenos with a refined space in which to work — and with delicious beverages.
“We see our guests and neighbors utilizing Vinoteca as an extension of their home or office,” said Michael Newcombe, the hotel’s general manager. “With a newly built-out space, powerful Wi-Fi access and top-notch culinary offerings to match, creatives and industry executives are welcome to visit Vinoteca any time of day.”
Vinoteca’s menu features shareable small plates from chef Mirko Paderno that include pizza, seafood crudo and “frutti di mare” (a seafood pasta dish). The wine list has been curated by Luca Bruno, the property’s wine director and assistant general manager (formerly of Providence, The French Laundry and more), to showcase classic Italian wines as well as locally sourced varietals. Those in need of a caffeine boost will find coffee and espresso sourced from Caffe Umbria — founded by a multigenerational Italian family based in Seattle — along with house-made pastries, fresh-squeezed juices and acai bowls.
The Screening Room, which debuted last June, features 38 reclining leather chairs (complete with retractable tables and armrests), a drop-down 14-by-8-inch HD 4K widescreen 3-D projector and a Klipsch Pro-THX surround system. The room can be rented for special events (starting at $2,500), and it also serves as a spot for hotel-hosted screenings, such as the recent Dinner and Movie fete, where guests were served a prix fixe, three-course dinner in Culina, followed by a showing of Oscar-nominated films.
