Buckle up, sit back, and enjoy the ride. With the help of Singapore Sidecars, that’s really all families need to do when discovering Singapore. Launched in 2018, the local tour operator allows clients to call “shotgun” in lovingly hand-restored sidecars; meanwhile, guides take the wheel of the attached Vespa and whiz through the island locale.
Lasting one to four hours, the excursions offer clients unique drive-by perspectives of Singapore’s best-known attractions. Of course, that includes the iconic Marina Bay skyline, which captivated fans of the 2018 film “Crazy Rich Asians.” (In fact, “The Crazy Rich Sidecars Tour” focuses on its filming locations.)
However, Singapore Sidecars’ tour routes also dive much deeper into the destination’s cultural melting pot. For example, clients will make their way through Kampong Glam, Singapore’s Muslim quarter, where a rainbow of 19th-century shophouses lines narrow streets. Here, passengers will marvel at the eclectic, mural-covered Haji Lane, as well as the fantastically golden-domed Sultan Mosque. The Joo Chiat/Katong area, celebrated for its significant landmarks and wealth of diverse cuisine, is also a popular route.

Throughout the journey, guides share fun facts and local history, providing an educational component to the tours. Ice cream pit stops are encouraged, too — but should probably be taken after the speedy joyride on a real Formula One street racetrack.
Feeling like a celebrity adds another entertaining element. On my own excursion with Singapore Sidecars — booked through Capella Hotel Singapore’s exclusive Qi & The City package, which highlights the city-state’s feng shui design principles — I was greeted by plenty of paparazzi-like photography from curious bystanders. With me was founder Simon Wong, and he recommended that I lean into my newfound stardom.
And so, I smiled and waved back, and embraced the cinematic novelty of it all.
Note
Note: Tours accommodate a maximum of 25 people, and Vespa sidecar passengers must be at least 10 years old. Kids under 10 can ride in a Jeep support vehicle and climb onboard the sidecar during stops for photo opportunities.
