K. Denaye Hinds is well-respected in the tourism and sustainability space, and for good reason — she has an unmatched passion for creating positive impact in regard to both communities and the environment. She has also put in the hard work to realize sustainability, including nearly nine years working at a leading global master planning, architecture and design firm, where she implemented sustainable master plans, green building resort projects and much more.
Today, Hinds is the founder and managing director of JustaTAAD, LLC, a boutique company that provides sustainability solutions for clients throughout the tourism, hospitality and event space. But before she dove headfirst into entrepreneurship, Hinds underwent all sorts of learning experiences.
Following a childhood and a young adulthood full of adventure in her former home of Bermuda, Hinds pursued higher education in the U.S., earning an undergraduate degree in civil and environmental engineering and a master’s degree in construction management. Eventually, the travel industry entered the picture, and Hinds was able to combine her love of exploration and her respect of the environment into a successful career.
In this episode of Humans of Travel, Hinds shares how she has discovered her purpose through challenges, including working in homogeneous, male-dominated fields. She also offers advice on how to support sustainability efforts, in addition to practical, honest tips for aspiring entrepreneurs.
