My one regret during my stay at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana is that I did not have enough time to get locked in a room.
Not that I wanted to be trapped in my own guestroom, mind you. (Although the comfy accommodations certainly would be a pleasant place to be stuck for a few days.) My yearning instead was focused on Escapology, the resort’s escape room experience.
This was the first time I’d ever stayed at a hotel with an on-site escape room — and also the first time I’d seen laser tag offered at an all-inclusive resort. While both experiences require an additional fee, they’re excellent examples of how well-equipped this expansive Dominican Republic resort is. And recent upgrades and new developments continue to make this hotel even more alluring.
What's New at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana
The first and largest Hard Rock property in AIC Hotel Group’s portfolio, the 1,787-room Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana offers relaxation and diversion on a grand scale. With 13 pools, nine dining venues and myriad entertainment options — including the largest casino in Punta Cana — this property is designed to give vacationers lots of opportunities to make memories.
In addition to a handsome redecoration of the guestrooms, the resort is continuing work on several other improvements, including a new Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club, two new restaurants (one vegan and one specializing in gourmet hamburgers), revamped dining venues and four new destination wedding packages with unique decor elements designed to make the most of Punta Cana’s tropical beauty. At the corporate level, AIC Hotel Group has restructured its Weddings Department with new staff appointments to help streamline the wedding-planning process.
I found one of the most spectacular new additions to be Awaken Your Senses, a new, immersive dining experience that takes place in a private dining room. Using high-resolution video projections, a surround-sound system and an interactive touch table, this decidedly engaging program provides a delicious culinary journey around the world.
In the age of Instagrammable moments, Awaken Your Senses should rank high on the “must do” list for first-time guests. Available for an extra fee, this was one of the highlights of my visit — and it’s a wonderful complement to the property’s many dining venues, which serve a variety of culinary styles, including Mediterranean, pizza, Mexican, Asian, Italian, Caribbean and Brazilian.
There’s Something for Everyone
Even before its latest improvements, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana offered countless ways to create a memorable Caribbean beach vacation. In addition to its 45,000-square-foot Hard Rock Casino, the property has a Music Lab that allows guests to explore their talents as a musician, as well as a bowling alley, a mini-golf course and nightly live entertainment and nightlife at multiple venues, including the fabulous Oro Nightclub.
Gamers will be pleased with the sizable arcade, while sports enthusiasts will want to reserve one of the tennis courts or a tee time at Hard Rock Golf Club at Cana Bay, which was designed by Jack Nicklaus. The Flowrider surf simulator, meanwhile, offers water-based excitement for those looking to test their surfing skills, and guests can also partake in daily activities on the beach and by the pool, including volleyball and water aerobics.
Another big draw of this property is its beautiful 60,000-square-foot Rock Spa, which has 42 treatment rooms and offers a tempting array of relaxing and rejuvenating treatments.
Guestrooms are also quite conducive to relaxation. I loved the layout of my room, with its king-size bed, attractive accent lighting and sunken living area. The large balcony, which was graced with a tub overlooking one of the pool areas, provided lots of space to sit back and enjoy the view.
Considering Hard Rock’s focus on music, it’s no surprise that guests will find plenty of opportunities to infuse their stay with their favorite musical styles, right in their rooms. The television system features multiple music channels, and guests can also sign up for The Sound of Your Stay, a program that offers curated playlists and even a Fender guitar loaning service — complete with AKG headphones and a Fender Mustang floor amplifier for use in the guestroom. In-room video lessons help beginners get up to speed.
For even more amenities and services, guests can upgrade to Rock Royalty Level, which includes accommodations in Caribbean Sand Suite category, with VIP check-in, a pillow menu, a complimentary 25-minute couples massage and the service of a personal reservations assistant, among other amenities.
With so many things to do, it’s no wonder I did not have time to visit the escape room on my first visit. I guess I’ll just have to go back.
